M.A. GRADUATION PROJECT
Sunspend, is an interactive luminaire that brings the sunlight into our living spaces. Suspended between floor and ceiling, the luminaire is interlinked by slim belts.
As users pull these belts, akin to adjusting a blinds cord, Sunspend gracefully ascends towards the ceiling or descends back down. As the light moves, it transitions through a spectrum of colors, mirroring the sky‘s hues. Gradually fading from bright, crisp whites at its highest point, to warm, subdued tones as the sun sets, Sunspend offers a tactile and emotional experience through its dynamic response to the sun‘s journey.
To sustainably fuel its radiant glow, sunspend is strategically placed in front of a window. A solar cell discreetly positioned on the luminaire‘s back ensures a self-sufficient power source, reinforcing the tangible connection to nature.
This design pays homage to the philosophical and graphic aspects of the sun, emphasizing the haptic and emotional dimensions of lighting design.
The endless loop of Sunspend‘s belt is a symbolic representation of the perpetual solar cycle, creating a captivating and personal interaction with light and its profound connection to our surroundings.
